This page is written specifically for a common thief who is thinking about stealing part of this work for a film or a scientific paper!
Trying to steal/plagiarize the solution to the centuries-old mystery of why whales mass strand themselves is liking trying to steal the Mona Lisa. Everybody that is anybody in the world of whales, knows that the Seaquake Theory was created by Captain David Williams over 30 years ago. Everybody will know you stole it and who you stole it from.
The other big problem for you is that there is a boxcar full of evidence showing that this intellectual work was first published in 1985 by the Moby Dick Society, Inc. (now Deafwhale Society) and by Captain David Williams. The list of witnesses to this effort will stagger your imagination since we have letters attesting to this intelligent creation from the Chairman of the National Geographic Society, from Philippe Cousteau (head of the Cousteau Society), from the head of Nova, and from 25 different university professors and hundreds of government scientists.
You might even be stupid enough to think this work is a grouping of facts and you can easily beat our copyright, but we believe that there is far more to the solution of the centuries-old mystery of why whales mass strand than just a collection of facts. We will challenge you in court and it might even become a test case to see whether some thieving bastard like yourself can get away with stealing the creative genius of a group of people who worked for 30 years and spent over $500,000 in research and development expenses. In other words, just how strong or weak is the copyright law that will allow you to steal this work? We think we will win easily in court and are willing to spend all it takes to beat you and recover damages.
We have researched tirelessly for over 35 years and believe our Seaquake Theory explains this mystery complete and we expect a film production company to reach an agreement with us to turn our work into a documentary film that will finally bring us the credibility that we deserve. We need this credibility so that we might advance our environmental message.
You should be aware that we expect some lowlife bastard like yourself to try to steal this work. It has already happened with our effort to solve the mystery of the Mary Celeste (link) so there is no reason not to think that some cheap son-of-a-bitch like you will not try to steal this work also.
If you are such a thief, you should be aware that the Deafwhale Society has a special legal fund already set aside to defend our ownership of this material. We plan to make a big media splash out of your lowlife attempt to steal our work in hopes that we can draw in lots of donations and bring more attention to our cause.
You should also be aware that we have already pitched the Seaquake Theory to explain why whales mass strand many years ago to most major broadcasters and they turned us down. We have the rejection letters on file so if they now buy our work from you, then they will be subject to a serious lawsuit which will fall directly back on your lowlife ass.
The scariest problem you'll be facing is that we might wait until you spend all your time and money and are about ready to release your film or paper to the public and then we file a case in court to seek an injunction to prevent you from showing or releasing what you stole from us until the courts can determine whether you are a common thief or not. In other words, we will likely allow you and your partners to invest a lot of money in stealing this copyrighted material before we move against you because we want to make it as painful as possible so this is about the only warning you will get.
In addition, since such a case might be tied up in court for ten years or so by the time the appeals process ends, you will never see any money from all your stealing efforts even if you win. If you lose, you will probably spend a hundred times what you might have gained in defending yourself and in paying out damages.
Be assured that the Deafwhale Society will also turn the legal fight into a media blitz to raise money from the public to defend ourselves. Then, there is the press campaign that the Deafwhale Society will launch against you personally and against your partners, accusing you of being dirty lowlife thief. In other words, even if your win and were able to steal this material, you would find that you will not gain any pleasure and will regret the day you ever decided to steal from us.
We will also pursue you for the rest of your life and will keep a special website going informing the whole world what a thieving bastard you really are. You will never escape our constant focus.
We are a law abiding group but even if the law is on your side, stealing our material is morally wrong and we will punish you forever. Your business partners will also be sued and attacked in the press and in ways they have never been hit before. Those with the most to lose will be hit the hardest and, since we have no assets that you can find, the fight will be nasty and below the belt.
We guarantee you that we will never rest until you are dead! And, of course, if you have any personal money or any property whatsoever (like a house or an old car) we will come after you personally as hard as the law will allow. And you will always be looking over your legal shoulder wondering if a Deafwhale Society doesn't catch up with you in some mysterious way and pay you back for trying to steal this work!
Somebody might even steal your car and you'll never know if it was one of our members or not. Bad stuff might start happening to you and you will not know who is to blame for all your misfortune. For example, someone might walk around your new car at the grocery store parking lot with a sharp key and scratch your paint job all around and you will never know who to blame. This is not a threat of violence since we are a non-violent group. But we can't possibly control the actions of all our members since they act as individuals. If they decide to settle the score on personal level, then we can't be held responsible since you have been warned not to steal this work.
I'm not saying anything violent will happen to you--I'm only saying that eco-terrorism is far more common these days then you can imagine. In other words, what you do will be interfering in our efforts to save the marine environment and will not be taken lightly by many of our militant members no matter where you live. Also, keep in mind that we have members in every country so its gonna be hard for you to hide out. But we're not threatening you... we are only telling you to consider all the consequences thoroughly before you try to steal this material.
Thus, if you are a stinking lowlife thief, the best advice for you is to get away from the Deafwhale Society's web pages and go steal from someone not likely to get so pissed off. You'll sleep better at night that way.
